Your Name: Lucy
Your E-Mail/AIM/Whatever: AIM : divinascomedias
Dreamwidth:
Your age: 22
Character info
Series/Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Character's Name: Mai
Character's Sex: Female
Character's Age: 15 16
Canon point: End Series
Abilities:
- High Agility and Stamina
Mai is not a bender of elements but has proven herself a dangerous adversary to any individual in her way. Canonly, she is portrayed having very quick reflexes that can counter the senses of earth bender’s, the sly cunning and intellect to sabotage water benders, and just enough to get by against an airbender. Clearly, her strengths have limits but as far as where she stands against the average human being, she’s definitely skilled enough to excel. She is seen having many battles and even, in a particular instance, she was able to single-handedly immobilize several targets without aid.
As far as the girls training is concerned, Mai has definitely learned and practiced strategies aiming mostly to immobilize a target in place. She’s part of a three-man package composed of Azula, Ty Lee, and herself. Her attacks can vary in both offensive and defensive but it’s mostly in part to her speed that she can manage to pull off both offering quick counter strikes to any block.
Expert with Knives
Mai’s trademark happens to be knives, all sorts of knives. Her entire wardrobe is comprised of being able to hide weapons well. Like an assassin, she doesn’t give a single hint of where or how her weapons are simply just appearing in her hands. Her ankles and wrists have spring-loaded dart dispensers that have the potential of breaking wood and slicing through ice without shattering it making them very dangerous against the fragility of a human body. Along her robes she has hidden blades, sai’s, and several other blades’ she uses in her combat.
It is canon that Mai can also create a projectile out of practically anything in her disposal or here immediate surroundings.
Strengths:
- Despite Mai’s usual ambiance as the daughter to a very important family decked in luxury and the comfort of loyal servants, the girl is capable of adapting to any environment she is thrown into. May it be wilderness or the heart of enemy territory, Mai is not only capable of pulling elaborate disguises and schemes, she certainly doesn’t seem to show any fear. Situations like these not only excite her, but they are certainly better than the monotone lifestyle she’s normally forced into as she canonly states. This makes her a very useful asset to have.
Weaknesses:
- Although Mai can certainly do anything, the girl has her limits. There is nothing unique about her in regards to powers. She doesn’t have super-human healing capabilities nor does she have super-human speed or strength. If she is combating something, odds are she will likely reach a peak where she will begin to get tired and against someone who appears to have some unlimited source of enemy, Mai will fall short. She has to keep herself going through strong will. Keeping an on-going training regime is necessary if she intends to keep her skills.
Background:
- Avatar: The Last Airbender (Appearances beginning from Book 2: Earth to end series Book 3: Fire) - Can be found HERE
Appearance:
- « HERE
Personality:
- As a first impression, Mai can seem to be very rough around the edges. She comes off as dark and gloomy, broody and sarcastic. A lot of her personality has to do in part to her upbringing. Raised by a noble family where political position was everything, the girl was forced into a very dull life of following orders and presenting herself as the quiet and plain typical ideal girl of the fire nation. Her actions have always been restricted alongside her thoughts, what she says, and anything required in front of a social scene. Regardless of her firm upbringing, Mai certainly has a mind of her own.
The sarcasm and apparent disinterest she gives off doesn’t normally mean she isn’t interested. Mai can be very outspoken, she says what she thinks and she isn’t exactly afraid of making her opinion clear. If she doesn’t like something, she won’t pretend to like it. Her blunt nature at times can come off as a little offensive; she is prone to mocking and teasing others for her enjoyment but it’s just her way of expressing her interest. Her unmotivated vibe tends to get confused for not caring and, sometimes it might be true. Although it’s difficult to please the girl, she definitely feels passionate about things and will freely express it if the moment calls for it. Mai isn’t exactly the quiet type unless she has to be.
In regards to relationships with others, she certainly has proven herself to be a competent friend. Because of her personality, it might be a little difficult to make friend but she certainly protects the people she cares for. She has a strong sense of discipline and a much grounded mind. She tends to be the reasonable person of the group and despite not showing it, she has a very strong sense of judgment. Her loyalty’s fall on the people she cares for and is more than willing to sacrifice her own freedom as canon shows.
Strengths:
- While some might find it difficult to do the right thing, Mai has never exactly found it hard to stand up to what she finds is right. As canonly portrayed with the struggle between Zuko and his path, Mai showed both understanding and compassion to a view very unlike the one she had been raised into and managed to respect it, even if she wasn’t fully convinced by it. For the upbringing she had, Mai certainly shows that she is not only open minded but that she genuinely gives people who have deserved it their place. This makes her a very whole individual which makes her very handy when it comes to advice.
Weaknesses:
- Mai is also portrayed being very choosy when it comes to doing things. Although her abilities offer her a very wide range of capabilities, she is likely to cast them aside if it means she can spare herself little inconveniences, like struggling more for something she calculates won’t be very successful (like chasing a water bender through a river of something, it just doesn’t seem very reasonable). Her loyalty definitely declines as far as this is concerned with those she really doesn’t feel a strong connection to.

- [There’s a clatter and the feed comes on at an awkward angle showing a lit street and the hems of a red robe. The fabric moved. Black shadows began sprouting from the ground with only the bright gleam of yellow to denote them as something far more dangerous than some shadows. The fabrics took a step backwards, a red shoe hitting the communicator and turning it a little farther. This time, the scene now included a girl.]
Give me a break, not you again.
[With a slight movement underneath long sleeves, the girl was now holding a pair of knives in each hand.]
There’s no point in keeping you around, you’re useless to me if you can’t speak.
[The heartless began to move forward and the girl moved out of the way, knives flying through the air while she managed to get herself to higher ground. She watched as they seemed to morph into the ground again and climb up the buildings walls. More knives appeared in her hands, golden eyes flared.]
I get it. You took out everyone else and now you’re coming after me. Is that it? [The heartless didn’t answer, they just started surrounding her again.]
I hate this place.
RP Sample:
- Mai had never felt so helpless than she did now, with nothing to call her own from the past and in the future, she felt so misplaced. The girl had wandered around the strange world and found herself in a place called Destiny Island. She had been taken to the dormitories and was now sitting on a bed alone in her room. Normally, Mai enjoyed her solitude but after the news she had received from those moogles, she couldn’t stand the isolation.
She might not be an expert at the affairs of this world but she knew that it was impossible to destroy an entire world. Her country knew all about war, right? Sure, they had ended and entire race but the world was still there. The world was still in one piece. To think that there was a possibility she would never return home, never see the great palace of the fire nation, and never get to see her friends and boyfriend again- “Zuko!”
Fabrics shifted as the girl stood up and made her way towards the window. It was bright outside. Too bright. The cheeriness of the place, the warm colors of light blue and browns were almost offensive to the girls mood. How could such a place exist with the apparent darkness that randomly engulfed things in the world? A gloved hand grabbed the curtains and shut them not wanting to lay eyes on that landscape. It just mocked everything she had lost.
"I’m alone. Again. Why am I not surprised."
